28 December 2008: 1st Sunday after Christmas

Torah: Deuteronomy 14:3-29
Prophet: Isaiah 43:1-28
Writing: I Maccabees4:36-61
Psalm: 30
Epistle: Galatians 3:23-4:7
Gospel: Mt. 1:18-25
Collect: Emanuel, you are the power which created the fiery sun and stars, the galaxies, and all that there is, yet you humbled yourself to be carried in the womb for nine months, and to be a little child, that you could dwell with us and be like us in all aspects save sin. Grant, Adonai, that we may fully appreciate what you did for us, that we would learn to humble ourselves in your sight, and truly allow Yeshua to be our guide. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach who lives and reins with you and the Ruach haKodesh in glory everlasting. Amen.

Monday: Emmanuel, as we remember the lives and deaths of those who died when Herod was attempting to kill you, help us to resist tyrants, and to stand strong against those forces today which would destroy innocent lives, whether through neglect or intent: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (Mathew 2:13-18)

Tuesday: Emmanuel, you raised up Thomas a Becket to protect the church against the authorities of this world. Help us to remember that the church must be in subjection to you and your word, and not to the authorities or whims of this world: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (white)

Wednesday: Assuring God, what consolation we have in knowing that we serve a God of constant support. We can venture into the new year, knowing we are not alone but that God is with us, and all will be well. Help us to start anew in your love and mercy: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.

Thurdsay: Emanuel, you who are with us, help us to remember that the name of Yeshua proclaims your salvation and healing, and through his finished work on the cross he completed his obedience to the law and the prophets began on this day, when he first shed blood in obedience to the law. Help us so to contemplate his holy name that we would truly accept that salvation and healing, and that our obedience to you would lead to salvation and healing of many: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (white) (Luke 2:15-21)

Friday: Alpha and Omega, though we bear your holy image, we are often the first to blame and the last to forgive. Teach us instead to be the first to love and the last to condemn: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.

Saturday: You deliver us, Lord, from many things so that we can belong to Messiah alone. May our lives which are freely lived, freely shared, and freely given bring honour, praise, and glory to your name: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.
