28 December 2008: 1st Sunday after Christmas

Torah: Deuteronomy 14:3-29
Prophet: Isaiah 43:1-28
Writing: I Maccabees4:36-61
Psalm: 30
Epistle: Galatians 3:23-4:7
Gospel: Mt. 1:18-25
Collect: Emanuel, you are the power which created the fiery sun and stars, the galaxies, and all that there is, yet you humbled yourself to be carried in the womb for nine months, and to be a little child, that you could dwell with us and be like us in all aspects save sin. Grant, Adonai, that we may fully appreciate what you did for us, that we would learn to humble ourselves in your sight, and truly allow Yeshua to be our guide. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach who lives and reins with you and the Ruach haKodesh in glory everlasting. Amen.

Monday: Emmanuel, as we remember the lives and deaths of those who died when Herod was attempting to kill you, help us to resist tyrants, and to stand strong against those forces today which would destroy innocent lives, whether through neglect or intent: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (Mathew 2:13-18)

Tuesday: Emmanuel, you raised up Thomas a Becket to protect the church against the authorities of this world. Help us to remember that the church must be in subjection to you and your word, and not to the authorities or whims of this world: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (white)

Wednesday: Assuring God, what consolation we have in knowing that we serve a God of constant support. We can venture into the new year, knowing we are not alone but that God is with us, and all will be well. Help us to start anew in your love and mercy: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.

Thurdsay: Emanuel, you who are with us, help us to remember that the name of Yeshua proclaims your salvation and healing, and through his finished work on the cross he completed his obedience to the law and the prophets began on this day, when he first shed blood in obedience to the law. Help us so to contemplate his holy name that we would truly accept that salvation and healing, and that our obedience to you would lead to salvation and healing of many: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen. (white) (Luke 2:15-21)

Friday: Alpha and Omega, though we bear your holy image, we are often the first to blame and the last to forgive. Teach us instead to be the first to love and the last to condemn: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.

Saturday: You deliver us, Lord, from many things so that we can belong to Messiah alone. May our lives which are freely lived, freely shared, and freely given bring honour, praise, and glory to your name: this we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who took our nature upon himself to redeem it. Amen.

Aid us, that our faith would be equal to hers, trusting you for defense, and trusting that you would complete your word in us today. This we ask through your son, Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and reins with you and the Ruach haKodesh, one God, in shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

Collects for the Week:
22 December (St. Thomas): El Shadai, who gave Thomas the strength to be ready to die for you, and the grace to travel to India. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen. (John 20: 24-29)

23 December: El Shadai, Liberating God, it is awesome to call you father. You care for your children despite their circumstances. We thank you for institutions and individuals who minister to your will to uplift the poor, oppressed, and downtrodden, for as much as we do it to the least of these, we do it unto thee. Amen.

24 December: Sacrificial Lord, your incarnation continues to startle the world. There are still those who question the divine mystery of your birth. Those who are touched by your intervention in their lives hail you as their King and Savior. We prepare to welcome you anew this Nativity celebration. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

25 December: At your birth upon this earth, Lord we adore you. We worship you and we bless you for indeed you are King of kings and Lord of lords. We receive you anew this day not as the child in the manger, but as our true Savior and Lord. Amen. (Luke 2:1-20)

Amen. (Acts 6:8-7:2a, 51c-60)

Amen. (John 212:19b-24)

Epistle: II Peter 2:1-25
Gospel: Mathew 25:31-46
Collect: El Shaddai, your son Yeshua gave up his glory and his place at your right hand to come to Earth to save sinners. Help us, Adonai, that we would not put family, home, riches, or fame ahead of you, but that we would be willing to give up all for you, that we would receive the benefits of your kingdom. This we ask through your son, Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and reins with you and the Ruach haKodesh, one God, in shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

Collects for the Week:

15 December: El Shaddai , our God, how comforting it is to be reminded that however much we falter and stray from you, you will keep reaching out for us. We thank you this day for being there to catch us when we fall from faith. Thank you for your love. Amen.

16 December: El Shadai, we live in a materialistic world where values are often misplaced. We have had many catastrophes in our recent past in which the possessions we work so hard to accumulate vanish in a moment. Help us to set our minds on things eternal rather than things which are transitory. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

17 December: El Shadai, Life-giving Savior, we come to you today seeking a new anointing. Come, dear Lord, and quench the thirsting of our souls. Bread of Heaven, feed us until we want no more. Fill our cup. Fill it up and make us whole.
Thank you for hearing us. Amen.

18 December: El Shadai, you suffered so much for our salvation. We may endure weeping for a night but through the manifold grace of our God, joy comes in the morning. Thank you for the mornings, which usher in new hope enabling us to go on another day. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

19 December: El Shadai, you are the only true God. You call and form everything into existence. Sometimes we behave as if we ourselves control our destiny. Give us the humility to recognize that you alone are God, and all things must come under your authority. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

20 December: Come, long expected Yeshua. Come, Lord, and set your people free. Many are still in darkness, being denied of your liberating power. As in days of old, redeem our souls unto your kingdom. Set your people free to glorify you. This we ask in the name of Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and governs with you in Shekina glory everlasting. Amen.

Gospel: John 2:13-25
Collect: Abba, Father, you sent your son Yeshua into the desert to fast and pray. Grant that we would so grow in the discipline of fasting, prayer, and study, that we would truly grow in knowledge and love of you, that the light of Yeshuah would truly shine through us. This we ask through Yeshua haMoshiach, who lives and reins with you and the Ruach haKodesh, one God in glory everlasting. Amen.
